Salisbury City Council

The Guildhall - Salisbury is managed and maintained by Salisbury City Council.

Salisbury City Council is the Parish Council for the City of Salisbury and is the most local level of government. Above the council are Wiltshire Council and Parliament. The City Council was formed in April 2009 as part of the reorganisation of local government.

Salisbury City Council provides, amongst other things, the following services and facilities in Salisbury:

  • Allotments
  • Parks and Playgrounds
  • Markets and Fairs
  • The Guildhall
  • Bemerton Heath Neighbourhood Centre
  • Community Development including grants
  • The Crematorium and Cemeteries
  • Sports Pitches

The City Council also promotes and represents the City’s interests with other councils, as well as with national and statutory bodies. Other services are provided by Wiltshire Council.

Each year Salisbury City Council calculates how much money it requires to provide its services or achieve any planned projects. This sum, called the precept, is collected for Salisbury City Council, by Wiltshire Council as part of a household's council tax. Salisbury City Council does not receive any money from central government or Wiltshire Council, nor does it receive any financial support from local business rates which are collected by Wiltshire Council.

For 2011/12 the precept will be £85 for Band D properties.
